what I was looking for

Has worked very well. This is the second one I have had. I had the first one for several years and the outside unit died. I replaced it with an accurate model and it was so bad that I threw it away.

Battery installation

Just today (January 24), I was attempting to test the product. The instructions for installing the battery in rain collector said to use a coin to unscrew the battery door. Actually, this door was fastened with two small Phillips-head screws. Both were very tight, but one was so tight that it would not loosen. I left a voice mail at 1-866-843-3905 over an hour ago requesting suggestions and am still waiting on a return call.

I purchased 3 other brand name electronic gauages which are less accurate than the Springfield.

Rain gauge is great! Outdoor temp questionable.

This is a great rain gauge and the wireless feature seems to work wonderfully, as does the indoor temperature reading, but it is next to impossible to position the collection device in such a way as to obtain an accurate outdoor temperature reading and also keep the collecting device positioned to collect rain (i.e., you can't protect the device from direct exposure to the sun without blocking its ability to collect rain). We wanted it to be able to do both, but our primary interest was rain collection and the night time and cloudy day temps outdoors seem to be much more accurate.

Called Springfield directly at Taylor Precision Products Customer Service talked to Linda and emailed receipt to Taylor 8/6/12 said they would respond within a day or two. It is now 8/12/12 still nothing.

WeatherShack provided a good product, the web sites access to the products manual particularly helped my select the product. Weathershack inadvertantly did not ship batteries with the product, but once I inquired they expeditiously and eagerly sent a second shipment of the batteries. Very good service.
