Easily and accurately monitor rainfall amounts with the Productive Alternatives Stratus Professional Rain Gauge, a precision weather instrument manufactured to United States National Weather Service and Environment Canada specifications, and is used as its official gauge around the world. Professional and amateur weather observers rely on these standards for accurate rainfall reporting. Constructed of heavy-duty, UV resistant polycarbonate, the Stratus rain gauge will stand up to years of rough weather and full sun without fading or corroding.

A funnel top on the rain gauge catches rain and delivers it to the inner measuring tube, while the extra-large outer cylinder captures rain volumes over one inch (25 millimeters) up to 11 inches (300 millimeters), and can be detached to measure snow, hail, or sleet. The Stratus rain gauge is guaranteed accurate to 1/100th of an inch (0.2 millimeters)! Clear plastic construction provides a see-through design so the gauge is very easy to read. Installing the rain gauge on a post (away from buildings and trees) is easy with its exclusive "Quick Connect" bracket, which lets you quickly remove the cylinder for easy measurement or cleaning (and there are no metal parts to rust!). Includes rain gauge (funnel, inner measuring tube and overflow tube), post mounting bracket and hardware, one-year daily precipitation log, and detailed instructions. This rain gauge is also available in a Metric measurement version.

This is the official rain gauge for both the National Weather Service precipitation monitors and CoCoRaHS, a grassroots volunteer network of backyard weather observers working together to measure and map precipitation (rain, hail and snow) in their local communities. CoCoRaHS is an acronym for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network. By using low-cost measurement tools, stressing training and education, and utilizing an interactive Web-site, their aim is to provide the highest quality data for natural resource, education and research applications. CoCoRaHS is now the largest provider of daily precipitation observations in the country. Please click Information about CoCoRaHS to learn more.

It's easy to join, takes only five minutes a day and is a fun way to learn about this wonderful natural resource that falls from the sky. The only requirements to join are an enthusiasm for watching and reporting weather conditions and a desire to learn more about how weather can affect and impact our lives. How often have you seen it rain in your neighborhood and a few blocks away not a drop has fallen? Participating in this program will provide an ever clearer picture of the amount of precipitation that falls in our backyards. To sign-up as a volunteer observer and become part of CoCoRaHS expanding network, please click Join the CoCoRaHS Network.

Just got the rain guage a few days ago. Installed it. And two, light rains later I can say it's incredibly accurate at the 1" and below rain levels. [I look forward to a rain of greater than 1" because that takes this guage to a different operating procedure.]

5 stars Accurate, easy-to-read rain gauge
Accurate, easy-to-read rain gauge with the volume capacity to measure all but the most heavy rains without emptying mid-rain.

5 stars Accurate rain guage.
This was a replacement for the one I have had for about 5 years. It is accurate and simple to use. Old one was showing cracks in the funnel so am replacing it with a new one. This will make the third one I have bought in the last 10 years. Looks like they last about 5 years.

5 stars Nice, sturdy and accurate rain gauge,
We tested against our decorative rain gauges and found they were off by approximately 1/2".

5 stars Manual rain gauge
This is still a fine, accurate, manual rain gauge, but its assembly quality has slipped a little over the last decade or so. I epoxied the center column into its socket in the base to align with the top and prevent its leakage.

5 stars Excellent gauge
We thoroughly enjoy this rain/snow gauge for its year-round use. Easy to set up, easy to clean, easy to read.

5 stars Accurate rain gauge - following exposure instructions
This rain gauge is a simple plastic product that is acceptable for NWS-Climate use. Just follow the instructions for ensuring reasonable exposure but no splash into the gauge. Probably a good idea to keep water from freezing inside the gauge in winter, otherwise it eventually will crack. I use the gauge to check my digital weather instrument and they both mirror each other on amounts, to the hundredth (0.01). I think you'll find this purchase worthy!

5 stars Very well made rain gauge
This rain gauge is easy to read, the inner tube fits perfectly into the larger tube, and it seems nice and sturdy. We will see how it fares over time, as my last one deteriorated from sun.
